Theater Workshop
The historical society has had a wonderful summer so far, beginning with the opening of our new exhibition, Visions and Contradictions, and continuing with the many programs we are offering throughout the summer. I am extremely excited about one of our upcoming programs. August 13 -15th we will be hosting a theater workshop designed for high school students. The workshop will be run by Tom Walker and other members of The Living Theater, NYC. We are so pleased to be able to offer young people in Connecticut this opportunity to work with this amazing theater company. A New Exhibit
The rich history of Cornwall and the entire Northwest corner of Connecticut never ceases to amaze me. Starting March 21st, the Cornwall Historical Society is hosting an exhibition assembled by St. Bridget’s church entitled, Iron Faith: Celebrating the History of St. Bridget’s Church. This exhibition will examine the stories of the immigrant laborers, missionary priests, industrial philanthropists and dedicated pastors and parishioners who made up this church on the banks of the Housatonic river. The exhibition is a wonderful story, and full of beautiful art objects belonging to the church. The exhibition is a treat for anyone interested in the history of this area of the Connecticut.
Come drop by to see this wonderful exhibition and our new building at the same time. The exhibition is open on Saturdays from 11 to 3, and we are open for research by appointment only. The St. Bridget’s exhibition is generously funded by the Connecticut Humanities Council.

Hello!
Welcome to our new blog! 2010 is an exciting time for the Cornwall Historical Society and I hope to use this blog to keep you up-to-date on the work we are doing and introduce you to some of the wonderful items in the collection.
Currently, we are hard at work planning our 2010 summer exhibition, Visions and Contradictions: The Foreign Mission School 1817-1826, opening June 25, 2010. This exhibition will tell the tale of the school that was created in Cornwall, Connecticut to educate “heathen” youths to become missionaries in their own communities. Hawaiian, Indian, Chinese, Cherokee, Choctaw, and other Native American students journeyed to Cornwall to attend this school. As you will see, the story involves religious zeal, race relations, scandal and tragedy. We hope you will join us this summer!
Our exhibition planning is currently funded by a generous grant by the Connecticut Humanities Council. Be sure to follow the link to find out more about this generous organization and the work it provides in funding valuable humanities projects in the State of Connecticut.
